Coaching versus Counselling
Coaching is a process enabling people to achieve their goals and overcome their blocks. It’s a process of looking forward and even when past issues arise the focus is how to become empowered to make changes for the future.
Counselling is a process of listening to the client, where they are and analysing the past to identify wounds for healing. Counselling does not use tools or techniques for the healing, it’s mostly a process of self examination.
Coaching often involves homework so the client is encouraged to take self responsibility of their own development. Coaching can be used for short term goals as well as overcoming long term problems.
It is rare in counselling for a client to have homework as the process is focused on sessions with the therapist. Clients often experience counselling as a long process.
